Exciting News: 2026 Advanced Class Registration (March 23–27, On-site or Online)
The theme for the 2026 Advanced Class will focus on the landscapes of Japan. There is so much scenery that has been loved and cherished for thousands of years, such as Kujukuri Beach and Mount Narita (near Kurenai-kai). For the 2026 Advanced Class, we are introducing two new designs: “C26 – 12 Heart like the Mountain“ and “C26 – 14 Heart like the Sea,” as part of the series we began in the past. We enjoyed discussing with the Kurenai-kai staff for this design.
Certain landmarks serve as symbols of hope. One design, “Heart like the Moon,” features the “Miracle Pine” in Iwate Prefecture, which survived the tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. It has been immortalized as a monument to the victims of the disaster. Though thousands of survivors lost their families and the strength to carry on, this rare survivor continues to encourage them beyond words. It truly represents a “heart of hidden virtue,” like the moon that shines its light silently upon the darkness of a suffering world.
For those living in the bustle of big cities, strolling through a bamboo forest offers a tranquil moment, much like “Heart like the Wind.” These places are filled with the essence of nature, providing opportunities to deepen one’s life. We rediscover the scent of the earth, walk under the dappled sunlight, and meditate beneath the bamboo groves. As you become more present, spending time in the light and wind of the forest brings something precious to the soul. It is as invigorating as a breeze that awakens earnest wishes beyond one’s own self-will.
We are applying expressions from Rinpa art and concepts from Japanese literature to these works. We are thrilled to introduce several new techniques specifically for these sceneries!

Requirement: Phase X and above (You must have completed the Phase X class. You do not need to have finished stitching the piece.)
If you register for the live sessions, you will receive: - A live lecture with real-time video instruction
- Live Q&A during the stitching session
- Recorded lectures with video instruction available for at least 6 months after the session
You can work on: - Option 1: This year’s theme
- Option 2: Your projects (any JEC designs, including fractal projects)
You may start new pieces or bring in pieces you’re already working on. If possible, please upload or send your design before the class, and we will discuss the symbolism and history behind it.
How to Register: - Step 1 – Registration: Please register for the class to secure your seat. For a faster process, we kindly ask that you place your registration order separately. Since the LMS/Video has an expiration date, a subscription will be created to your account (indicated as $x for 1 year); however, you will NOT be charged for renewal upon expiration. Please don’t cancel the subscription as it will suspend your LMS.
- Step 2 – Heart like the Mountain or/and Heart like the Sea You can either order this year’s theme or bring your own project.
Please note: An optional class will be available for an additional cost. All participants must purchase the fabric by the time the Special Summer Workshop and Oceania/Japan time session begins. |
