We cordially welcome all phase X graduates to work on this theme, Peacock inspired by Ito Jakuchu. This design is long-waited for many stitchers and we appreciate your patience. This design is shown on page 5 of the publication, Japanese Embroidery the World of Kurenai-kai. The first class was held at JEC, Atlanta (March 7 -11, 2016 & August 8 – 12, 2016 with free optional stitching day on 13th as we have design class on 15 – 16) and Kurenai-kai, Japan (September 21 – 25, 2016)

Ito Jakuchu (1716 – 1800) is a well-known Japanese painter of the mid-Edo period, whose paintings examine traditionally Japanese subjects, particularly birds. Many of his otherwise traditional works display a great degree of experimentation with perspective, details, and with other very modern stylistic elements.

To make this class a better experience for each stitcher, we made a trip to Japan and learned special methods of expression from Mr. Yamashita at the Kurenai-kai workshop. It is quite challenging to express the intricate brush strokes and distinctive expression of Ito Jakuchu, but interpretation with silk threads and metallic threads brings about new dimension to the path of Nuido. We are also preparing a stitching video.

As for the fabric, we will be using Uchikake – Gold fabric which is wider than most standard-width fabrics.
You have an option for gold leaf. If so, please submit fabric order 35 days prior to the desired shipment date, or the class date.

Listed color scheme thread set is suggested for recommended fabric type.
Please note that design and fabric may change without any notification.

*This design requires 20 business days to be shipped. (Optional gold leaf +35 days)
